Subject:
finishing a purpleheart pen

>Evening everybody,

Slyly asked the young one's teacher what her favourite colour was. She said blue or purple so I set out to make a purpleheart pen for her. The blank sure looked good and purple to begin with (and throughout) but after turning and finishing with Shellawax it looks very subdued. Almost brown. Can I expect it to "age" back to its purple glory or is this something I need to live with? Should I have finished it differently? Tung oil followed by wax? Too bad because I'm really happy with how the pen came out otherwise.

Thanks for your help,
Steve Kubien
