>Small plate/platter, about 7" from 4/4 material (from scrap bin!!).

After finishing, etc., I saw some cracking across the piece, but it was from one side only, not all the way through. A turning acquaintance said that had I shot it with Deft, it may not have cracked. I used DO, Bealed, Ren. Wax.

Absolutely rock hard wood that takes a beautiful polish, but seems to remain open-grained, even after finishing.

Is there a consensus to this?
