>Hi, What is the proper procedure in using the
step center in very hard wood? I have been
center punching the end of the wood, insert
the center in the lathe and mounting the wood
and using the tail stock with a live center.
Advancing the tail stock quill to engage the
teeth of the step center. On a Nova 3000,
I have noticed that the spindle bearing closest
to the step center getting warm, not hot but
warm. Should I be setting the center with a
mallet before mounting? Thanks for your help
