Subject:
parting tools

>I made a couple of parting tools today. The top one is HSS planer blade. About 3/16 thick. I turned a walnut handle and put a copper ferule on it. It was glued into a 3/8" hole with 5 minute epoxy.

The bottom one was made from a file I had that is wider at the top. I annealed the file then I ground off the teeth, Shaped the end and then hardened the metal and tempered it. I had a brocken hammer handle so I heated the tang and drove it in the handle.

I'll give them a try tomorrow when I start on my spindle duplication project for a customer.
