Subject:
Another chainsaw q: rollertip seizing

Ken Grunke from SW WI
>The rollertip on the bar of my Stihl Miniboss 180C has been seizing on me. I've been able to work it loose with penetrating spray and tapping it around with a screwdriver/mallet but I'm wondering why this is happening!
I have no idea if oil is lubricating the rollertip, but the saw is using oil like it should. It seems to happen when I'm ripping small slabs of wood for turning blanks. I don't have a ripping chain, just the original factory chain. I get a thick buildup of long chips inside the cover and have to pull it off, clean it out, and free up the rollertip to get a couple minutes more of cutting. I know the saw isn't made for this type of cutting, maybe I should get a ripping chain but I don't do this that often.
The warranty runs out the end of Sept. and I'll be calling them but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem?
