Newbie with Jet 1236 question

Stephen
>I purchased a used jet 1236 that appears to be in fine condition; the price was right and I couldn't turn it down. However, I know little about turning apart from this forum and a couple of books I've read.

The lathe did not come with the faceplate. I have not decided what I am going to do with this lathe, but small bowls and boxes are probably in the future. Should I buy a replacement factory faceplate or would there be something nicer (and probably pricier) that would give me more bang for my buck in the future? Details and model numbers would be most helpful.

Thanks for any advice in advance. If there is something fundamental that I have missed or left out, kindly point it out to me. Thanks, Stephen
