Sanding grits

>I once heard a formula for grits.

In moving from one grit to another don't jump up half the number of the privous grit.

Example, 120 to 180 is fine, half of 120 is 60, 120+60=180. Is 150 honestly needed then??

120 to 220 is not ok, 120/2=60, 120+60=180 which is less than 220.

Is this something that has been used or heard of by anyone else?

The grits I stock, but may not use the coarse grits always.

80-120-180-220-320-400-600

Is this a good run of grits?
