Subject:
Replacement Bearings: different levels of quality?

Devon Palmer
>All,

I recently traded off my jet mini for a Rikon mini lathe (12' swing, indexing, 4 inches more between centers). I'd give it a 5-6 in the quality range, good enough for a second lathe for demo's and stuff like that. I've had to replace/upgrade a few things already and the bearings are not long for this world (run warm, slight chatter, etc).

Are there any REAL different quality levels in bearings? I'd want to go with the highest reasonable quality and am not sure what to ask for. Previous experience would tell me to just go for a matching timken set and call it good.
