Questions on making a bowl steady.

Started making one that would accommodate a 16" bowl. (The lathe will swing a 16" bowl) It's too big. Hit the shelf above the lathe.

Rather than cut off the shelf decided to try a smaller one. Made one for 12" bowls, but the "arms" for the rollers hit the shelf.

Clearly should have made a cardboard mock-up.

Questions: How strong do these things have to be? Can the arms be curved like scimitars? I have been putting four wheels on it. Would three be enough? Do the wheels have to be perfectly symmetrical, or can they just touch the bowl most anywhere?
