Subject:
cracking red oak

KEN RIEDEL
>Making several red oak bowls (8 inch diameter). Rough-turning left pieces one inch thick. (I knew there would be a lot of warping). Soaked each piece 8 hours in alcohol and paper-bagged. Checked them 3 days later and they're all cracking! CA'd the cracks and coated them inside and out with end-grain sealer to hopefully stop further cracking. Question: Is there a BETTER way of drying red oak so that it DOESN'T crack?
