General 260 lathe riser Kit

>I'm buying a General Lathe from a friend who upgraded. I want to upgrade from 12" swing to 20" with the riser kit but I'm having trouble finding someone that has it in stock. Most General distributors I have contacted would have to order the next time they place an order from General and it could be anywhere from 1-2 months. I found a place in Canada but shipping to Miami, FL was very high. The kit goes for about $450 plus over $100 for shipping. General will not sell to me directly.

Does anyone here know where I can get the riser blocks? Any experience with having them made?

Also, when speaking to a salesman from one of the distributors they asked if it is a four speed or var. speed. The lathe has a Reeves drive/handle to change speeds with "10 speeds". Is this considered variable speed?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jorge
