Turning Archive 2006
William Duffield, on the Cohansey
>Specifically, human powered lathes. Turners might be interested in joining the discussion.
I spent Sunday afternoon at the Joyners' Shop at Pennsbury Manor, where friends had just set up the Greate Wheel Lathe. It was hot and humid, but that didn't prevent most of us from taking our turn at the crank. Yesterday and today, my back and shoulder are complaining. At Pennsbury, there are also a treadle lathe and a springpole lathe in use, demonstrating 17th Century joynery techniques.. There are also the remnants of another old springpole lathe set up outside the shop.
Other hand tool subjects are also welcome for discussion.
