Subject:
Oil finish, Beall system

Dennis Thomas
>I have finished several bowls (ash, walnut), using a walnut based oil finish. I apply three coats of oil, waiting 24 hours between coats, then wait 3 days before using the Beall system.

I have noticed that the heat of buffing brings a small amount of oil to the surface, which I wipe off between continuing. (I apply the tripoli and white diamond at about 800 RPM and the carauba at about 400 RPM). After the wax is applied and the bowl is room temperature, there isn't any feeling of oil.

My questions are:
1. Is this normal?
2. Or should I wait longer between steps and before buffing? How long?

Thanks
Dennis
