Subject:
Oil Lamp Base *PIC*

Wayne Leach-NW Ontario
>Hi All,

This is the first item I turned on my new Jet Mini after I got it last Jan. in Americus, GA
Found the tree lying across another and off the ground-obviously had been down for some years. Took a chunk back to trailer and turned the base for an oil lamp, it looked good for a first attempt but about 1 week after it was sitting in the trailer we heard a loud "crack" and this was the culprit.
Almost everything I turned down south cracked after a few days but the turning experience was good.
Does anyone recognize this wood, its absolutely "gorgeous" in color and grain is distinctive. The owner of the property does not know what it is nor anyone else down there?
It was found amongst oak and cypress surrounding a sod farm!

Thanks for the help,
Wayne
