Subject:
Helping Someone get Started

Jake Niedling
>I have been helping a gentlemen with the basics of woodturning a few hours every couple of weeks. He has made some good progress. Everytime we are together though, he mentions another turner friend of his has told him a differnt way to do things. He always tells me that he enjoys my teaching, because I am so patient and he understands better. I have told him that he has to decide which way he wants to do it. I have mentioned that there are many differnt ways to approach woodturning, sharpening and finishing. I try to keep to the fundementals and encourage him to just enjoy the woodturning process. And remind him that there is no replacement for spending time at the lathe.

Anyone else had an experience like this?
