Turning Archive 2006

Subject:
Super Spalted Maple *PIC*

Rick Davenport
>This piece is from the dollar bin at Bow River Woods.
In other woods, a piece they thought to be unturnable.
It's 7"w x 2.5"h x 3/8"thick (more or less)
Light as a feather and rather lumpy from the very hard spots/very soft spots combination (sanding was near impossible).
It was a real adventure turning it since I was never sure if it would hold together.
Sharp tools; light touch.
Finished with spray lacquer since I figured my usual walnut oil would turn up a lot of dark/soft spots.
Comments welcome.
