>I have a big leaf maple hollow form I'm just now bringing to final shape. I want to put a ebonized persimmon "spout/nozzle" on it...not too high--half inch or so. I have some squares of 1 inch thick by 4 by 4 persimmon but am still uncertain as to how to mount the squares on the lathe given that I will need to drill a one inch hole through the middle of the spout...sooner or later. I wonder if this is even do-able given the thickness/thinness of the persimmon? Should I start with something thicker, turn a tenon and chuck it up?
Also what's the process? Turn the HF, finish, and then turn the spout, finish and glue the two together? Or should the spout be glued on before finishing the piece as a whole?
