Kelton Sharpening System Question

>The Kelton system comes with two arms and two posts that mount in the arms. The posts are round stock and are clamped down to hold the multi-grind jig or the other one can be used to capture the handle of a tool. The one that holds the jig can be clamped down anywhere on its length and I wonder why. If it is not put back at the same heigth each time you can't repeat a grind. On the Wolverine this part is welded together and I wonder if there is any advantage to having it movable?
