>I'm a novice at woodturning. I have an old shopsmith with a lathe as one of its features, and I would like to try a bowl. I need to purchase a bowl gouge, I guess. What size should i buy? Also I don't need a real costly tool as I am in my 70's and it doesn't have to last forever. Any tips you can give me would be much appreciated. I was cutting some trees today, among them A 12" elm and a 12" box elder. Is this wood suitable material? Thanks for your input.
