OK, what's the trick?

>I am trying to burn a separation groove. Tried some #19 stainless steel wire - no burn. Tried some picture hanging wire - no burn. Not even a hint of brown. Is there a specific type of wire that you are suppose to use? What speed do you need to get the burn? I can't put a whole lot of pressure on it because the burning the groove was a bit of an afterthought and there is a fairly small section attaching the piece, so maybe that is my problem?
