Subject:
Photo background - quick recommendation please

Ed Moore
>For reasons that don't matter, I must take some pictures of my work quickly and quality matters. My son, who is helping me with some aspects of this project, has received recommendations saying to use a black background. Good idea -- or bad idea for bowls and boxes?

I just sent for a roll of background paper that was to be "studio gray", but the roll that just arrived is labelled "pearl gray" and it seems lighter than what I had wanted. But I can't find a way to compare the two shades of gray.

Bottom line: What color do you recommend for a background? Is it reasonable to go for a graded (or is it scaled) background?

Thanks,

Ed

PS: I know that this has been kicked around ad infinitum, but I'm a little pinched for time and I can't remember what was said about using black for a background.
