Turning long piece

Pat Evans
>This is my first post on the turning board. I don't own a lathe and have to drive to Raleigh to borrow my brother-in-law's for the little turning I do. I need to turn a spool piece for a bed footboard. When I did the test piece, I found it extremely difficult to turn the middle section because of vibration. At 39" long, I believe there is a little flex in the piece causing it to vibrate at the middle of the length. Any suggestions for a rest of some kind to carry the middle? Something cheap, quick, and homemade since I may never have need again. At least until I get my own lathe. Thanks.
