Subject:
An Introduction / First turning *PIC*

>I've been lurking here for a while and responded to a few posts - so it's about time I introduced myself.

My name is David Belser and I'm a turn-a-oholic. It all started innocently enough when a friend gave me an old Delta-Rockwell lathe. It started Christmas 2004 when I turned 27 tops for presents. I thought I could control my habit but it's only gotten worse in the past year. I find that I can't pass a downed tree without stopping and my tablesaw is buried in a mountain of roughed out chips.

What a great support group this is!

The other night I was reflecting on my habit and realized that I still had my first turning. It's a black king chess piece and is about 16" tall. If it looks like a IA shop project thats because it is. I did it about 30 years ago in eighth grade. I haven't turned anything else until I got started a little over a year ago. I don't remember much about making it - as far as what gouges the instructor let me use. I spent many weeks on it and may have actually sanded it into shape :)
