Turning Archive 2006
>Since I haven't been turning hollow vessels for the last year or so I've decided to start brushing up on my skills. I'm starting small, mostly because that's the wood I have right now. This is a box elder piece. It is 5" tall and 3" around. It weights 1 oz. It's actually not terribly thin, maybe 1/8" with a little thicker at the bottom to give it some stability. It's just a very light wood.
I'm not totally pleased with the shape. I tried to follow the pattern that the red in vessel followed. This made the top a little flatter than I might like and the neck under the beaded top is a little funny but I'm not sure why, it just bothers me. All in all not bad for my second hollow vessel in a year or more. There will be more especially when the weather warms up and I can spend more time in the shop.
My son shot this photo in my home rig (with a little help from dad of course).
