>Turned some finials from hedge today. Wood was from a 4" section of a log that I had cut for stepping "stone" about 6 or 7 years ago. It had been outside under a tree.

It turned really great. The tool bevel burnished the cut surfaces--they had a polished look. Wish I had cut those section longer! maybe I can salvage some sections from the fence post pile.
