Non--turning program

Jim Miles - Charlotte, N C
>Our club has done for several years an "Outdoors" program and picnic in May at The local Boy Scout Camp. We bring in a portable sawmill & cut logs members bring, & demo how it is done. The Camp makes sure there are several interesting trees available and everyone that wants goes home with plenty of wood. A blacksmith teaches tool making, Also, chainsaw use and members can cut their own bowl blanks,
Tree identification, Lumberjack demo, make Poplar bark baskets ((mostly a spouse program) The focus is doing things you can't do " inside" Program has gone over quite well- all of us use trees & wood, things related to that seem to be of interest. Club members do woodturning demos at the Scout Camp for scouts each week during summer.
