Pine is a pain to turn. Around here dry pine means kiln dried and that means 3/4" thick stock. You would have to glue it up to get a blank. For that matter, most wood you are going to get that is 6" thick will still be wet enough to crack when turned and drying. Why not start with a glued up blank?
