>Vince My finials are usually either 3/4" by 4 or 5" long or preferably 1" and 4 to 6" long. I actually start with a blank longer than that. I'll chuck it in my small jaws and turn the long finial. Then when that's done I'll turn a 3/8" tenon on the blank left in the jaws. I'll reverse that and grab the tenon and then turn the finial that's on the top. So my blanks are usually somewhere around 8" long. I have the Vicmarc chuck and the small jaws are about 2" long so this leaves plenty for the upper finial.
