>My wood says "I don't want to be a bowl, I want to be a hollow form". You have to put your ear down closer to the lathe. I guess my being a short little Irishman helps, I'm closer to the wood. Try starting a turning at about 4 a.m. when it is really quiet and see if that helps. You might also try new batteries in your earpiece. I know there is something that will work for you. By the way, all wood isn't English so you need to learn as many foreign languages as possible. Don't give up, you'll get it.
