Jimiles-Charlotte, NC
>Asheville is a VERY artsy town for it's size ( much more so than Charlotte ) There are a number of galleries downtown with plenty of nice wood to see. The Southern Highland Craft Guild Show is usually sometime in July in Asheville, probably one of the top shows in the state

Blowing Rock has a few nice galleries downtown, also nearby - The Cone Estate on The Blue Ridge Parkway has a nice craft shop.
Banner Elk would be a nice stop on the way

July 14 North Carolina Woodturners AAW club meets "down the mountain" in Hickory, NC at Klingspor Woodworking Shop. Klingspor is a sandpaper manufacturer and sells paper by the pound ( plus all kinds of wood working toys ) Check out NCW web site if interested
Have a good visit!
