It has been a while since I was in school, but I suspect things have not changed that much. From the description and title, it sounds like a foundation course for design/art. It will cover form, negative space, primary, secondary, tertiary forms etc.

Might I suggest going to the school bookstore to see if there are any books listed for the course and look through them. Also, find out if there is a syllabus for the course and review it. It will give you a clear picture of what the class will cover. But as stated,$600 is a lot of money. What would it cost to audit the class (no credit)?
