I believe you're right. I never let my kerosene can run dry. Just don't buy it off the shelf in a store unless you have more money than you need.

I use kerosene as a coolant/lubricant when drilling steel. It's good on oil stones for sharpening. Others mix it with chainsaw bar oil and use it instead of water to lubricate bandsaw mill blades. And I just serviced my tractor last weekend - Kubota requires the diesel fuel filter be cleaned with kerosene.

Next thing you know, people will be boiling bowls in kerosene.
