>Another good thing to do is to slightly counterbore the hole on the face side. When you drive a screw into the wood, it can tend to pull some of the wood up off the surface. A slight counterbore ensures that the wood will sight tight against the faceplate and not be set off by these bits pulled up by the screw threads.
