The turner is the one person who really gets to enjoy the spectacular color of box elder, for all that red and orange color will fade to brown eventually. A finish containing UV inhibitors such as Deft will help, as will keeping the piece in the dark. I once saw some pieces from a collection turned about fifty years ago. One could barely see where the color had been and there was no color left at all. The same was true for the pieces of "Ambrosia" Maple. (Both are in the "Acer" species.)

It's understandable considering that the color is caused by a fungus, but nonetheless disappointing.
