If you can find it, there is an old video, probably tape, not CD, with Del Stubbs, who turns a paper thin bowl. He uses a shear scrape (gouge or scraper, I can't remember...) and water on the bowl, and very slow speeds. He didn't like turning them that thin because self destruct over a few years. Shear scraping is a very useful technique for micro adjustments.... Very gentle, and cleaner than the NRS...
