Simply putting yourself into your work is an element of risk. You hope anyone besides yourself enjoys the work. The work or making the work doesn't have to be dangerous as in on the edge of disaster. It's simply trying to express yourself and putting your ego out there that has an element of risk, and maybe disaster.
Now turning this 46" long 14" diameter stave constructed vessel is on the edge of disaster. Since it's a little out of round there is a definite risk that I will go too far when turning this thing and have an odd shaped barrel come off the lathe. You can bet I'll be as careful as I can but there isn't any way to stand out of the line of fire when turning a spindle like this. I will be dancing on the edge of disaster.
