Leo Cuellar
I'm no stranger to using a skew in that fashion, but now that Mike revealed Richard's little trick, I probably won't anymore. I blew the piece up trying to do what I think was shear scraping on it. A very grabby chunk of wood. A quick picture to show you that I actually can handle a cheap Grizzly gouge fairly well...
The left side is all gouge. I have a hard time with flowing cuts, but I'm sure I'll get there. A little (started with) 400 grit sanded band for comparison. Next, to the right of the band, a scraper set up as Mike suggested, with my buffer wheel tuneup. Then another band of 400 grit sanding for comparison.
Now, I'm not going to try to convert you to a scraper guy. I'm just saying that you can take such fine shavings with a scraper set up this way that they float away like smoke. I'm sure that there must be some sort of burr raised but it is too refined to even feel, I don't have a magnifier that would even come close to revealing it.
