I think you need to look at the price of the higher end. A Craftsman lathe sells for nothing on the resale market. A Nova sells for 80% of list. The Oneways, Robusts, and Stubbys resell at near full value of whatever current list is because you don't have to ship them (which is expensive).

Try pricing a Unisaw on the secondary market. Or a Robland. Same results.

I suspect that supply and demand is part of it, but also, quality does not depreciate. Neither in price nor capability. If you want a bargin, you have to go back to the antique market and retrofit of build your own.
