John, just made the little one and tried it out.

This was done on a 1" block of curly maple that I'd taken a few swipes at with my new Hunter #3, but all of these cuts were done with the straight ground chisel in the pic. I couldn't take it down any smaller than 1/4" at the thin spot because I noticed it had a crack running the full length, just visible in the photo. The vibration that caused made me stop. It makes horrible pummel cuts.
