Steve We actually ran into that problem at work. Our budget worked on cost recovery. We were given a certain amount of dept and had to earn our way out. Any money we got over the debt we were able to use to buy new equipment, furniture etc. Here's where you come in. My photo skills (speed) improved to the point that shoots that used to take 4 hours were now taking not much more than 1.
The same is true for my turnings. Hand mirrors used to take 4 hours or more to make. I now make them in about 45 minutes. Of course that's good because up until yesterday (my first day of retirement) time was a major problem.
