All of my skews are "skating" skews, and they all are very easily skated to either side of the cut. My 1/2" oval, as well as my 1 1/4" standard skew are probably the best for creating the "X#@%&*##X" cut that I first began employing in my turning many years ago. That particular cut, (something like a "free-form" spiral), cannot be as readily or predictably created with any other tool in my arsenal.
