Chalice In Cherry *PIC* ()

Charlie Your doing great on those. I went through the same thought that cherry just wouldn't go small enough. However when I got really really tiny it turned out the be the wood that made the smallest. I think it has to do with weaknesses in the wood itself. Some parts of the same small piece of wood will be tougher than others.
When I started getting small I kept breaking the ebony goblets so I changed to yellow heart. It seems much stiffer. Then it started breaking so I tried holly, too flimsy, flexed and broke, so I grabbed one of the small splinters of ebony and it worked to go even smaller. Then is started breaking, I think because it had almost microscopic pores and if one of those ended up in the rim or stem it broke. I went back to the cherry that I first tried and then made the smallest one. It's height it approx the thickness of your dime.
