Hi Steve, You are correct on all counts. I added the link to my article as well, hoping it will help. Yes, during all my bowl-turning classes, I teach bandsaw safety 101! I won't let ANYONE use the bandsaw without proper instruction beforehand, then I watch them! It amazes me when I watch people use either a table-saw, jointer, or the bandsaw; THINK and PLAN each cut, place your hand BEHIND the blade's cutting edge, where it cannot possibly cut you, and pull the work through the blade, rather than push. Some operations, such as cutting off a too-long tenon are disasters waiting to happen! Accidents on the bandsaw are avoidable...like Steve says, you must place your hand in front of the blade in order for it to cut you!
