Outer Banks story

Ellis Walentine
We rented a house in Corolla Light, about 8 miles up the beach from where the road ends, one summer. Little did we know that a hurricane would be going through the week before, and the beach was narrowed to a single-track up against the dunes. There were a few times when we had to just put our heads down and go for it. Luckily, we didn't get stuck, but it could have happened. There were a few other unhappy campers who weren't as lucky. What a sinking feeling that would be. Literally.
