Well I posted this piece a while ago, but not sure if I posted it here. T he response it has received has more than astounded me. It was selected for a show of some of my work (along with a bunch of other artists) at a local art museum.

I was reading some of the junk mail I get a few months ago, and one was a call for entry in Woodcarving Illustrated magazine. I looked at it and thought, what the heck. There was no entry fee, so I entered this piece, along with a few others that I had done some carving on. Well there were over 600 entries and I really did not have any expectation that my work would get much notice as there are some really wonderful carvers out there. To my astonishment I made it into the finals in the category I entered (open). I don't expect to win even within the category as there is just too much other really outstanding work that was submitted. But..... you can all check out their website and vote if you feel inclined. I'm just saying....

Anyway, as I stated when I first posted the pics of this piece. It was really a trial at doing such a carving. I got the idea from watching a Michael Kehs demo and decided to give it a try. It was my first leaf piece and there are some things I would definitely do better if I were to try again. I am REALLY flattered that it made it into a museum display and now the finals of a carving competition. My wife owns it and is not giving it up (although she consented to loan it to the museum for the show). Who knows, I may do another some day.
