Re: The benefits of lung protection

I have a 2hp bag dust collector with the best bags I could find (I think they claim to be < 1 micron.) I have a shop made cyclone type sperator attached to it so only the fines go into the bags. I also run a shop made air cleaner with a hepa grade filter.

I do not have much dust accumulation around the shop so I think I am doing OK with ambient air. I wear my Airstream any time I am tunring or sanding. As others have said, it is hard to capture the fine dust when sanding at the lathe. Given the fact that I run a DC and air cleaner, I surprised at the quantity of fine dust in the filter of the Airstream.

I realize that the Airstream moves a relativly large volune of air compared to what you breathe so the amount of dust in the filter is greater than what might be inhaled, none the less, it was still alarming to me.
