Leather, as in flat leather like a belt for holding up trousers?

If so, I don't think the link type belts will work. The link type belts I've seen are for V pulleys.

I forgot to add that to splice a flat leather belt, a taper or feather is put on each end of the belt with at least a four to one taper, six to one is better. The feather or tapered ends are glued together. I've used titebond, but think that horsehide glue is traditional.

For the round type leather belt, a small C clip piece is sometimes used to join the ends and then crimped closed instead of the feather/glue process.
