Here's what I learned in my very first turning class, which still holds true today.
99% of all turning problems can be solved with a sharper tool and a lighter cut.
This is the corollary that I came up with, which applies to hand tools as well.
Here’s how to fix most problems while you’re down here, chucklehead.
Step 1. Check to make sure your tools are sharp.
Step 2. If you are still having trouble, go back to step 1.
