Subject:
Stuck my fingers in a wing'ed piece

John Lucas
Not once but twice, so I decided to take a break for a few minutes. Took a couple of days off of work during spring break so I'm working on a new style of handle for a mirror I'm working on. It has parts that are what I call paddle turning. That is, a flat board turned as a spindle which in this case leaves wings flying around. While turning the beads on the main shaft of the handle I stuck my finger in the upper wing. Said a few kind words to the spindle and then finished the turning.
Then when I was sanding, did it again, said something that resembles "boy this is fun" but in a courser language. finished up and decided to let my fingers cools down. I think my left index finger has stopped throbbing now.
On the plus side I'm planning a bead turning video. Turning 30 some beads on a handle with a spindle gouge really helped me understand how to teach that.
About rested now so back to the offcenter turning to finish up the handle.
