I was unable to bring a bottle of the old Woodcraft end grain sealer through in my checked luggage. It plainly stated in small print that it had an ignition temperature of 700 degrees. End grain sealer is basically emulsified wax in water. Now if I had brought a candle in my checked luggage, I would have been fine. If I brought paper with a spontanious combustion temperature of 451 degrees, I would have been fine. But the bottle had a warning that it would combust at 700 degrees. Frankly, if the cargo hold of an airliner has a temperature of 700 degrees, I think the pilot has more on his mind than a bottle of end grain sealer.
BUT, the TSA has no sense of humor, are not the brightest employees and are not allowed to use a lick of judgement. I think a lot of stuff gets checked through that is a lot more dangerous than end grain sealer, but do they print the ignition temperatures on the packaging? I think you can do a lot of damage with a can of hair spray. I would seriously worry about your sister getting called out of the waiting area and down to the TSA luggage security area to remove that can of wax. Which is wax dissolved in a solvent. Which has to be disposed of outside the terminal. And then go through security again.
